Beat the bite

April 18, 2022 BY

Enjoy the great outdoors in the last week of the school holidays, but prepare to beat the bite.
Japanese encephalitis virus has been detected in north and north western Victoria and is a rare but potentially serious infection spread through mosquito bites.
Whether your camping, bushwalking or just getting outdoors remember to:
✅ Cover up – wear long, loose-fitting clothes.
✅ Use repellents that contain picaridin or DEET on all exposed skin.
✅ Use mosquito nets or insect screens.
✅ Use ’knockdown’ fly spray, mosquito coils or plug-in repellent where you gather to sit or eat.
✅ If mosquito numbers are high, limit activity outdoors.
