Gordon Primary School students recently walked, rode and scooted to and from school as part of ‘Walk to School’ week earlier this month.

Principal Russel Cowan said the initiative “is a great way to help students learn healthy habits and be physically active every day.”

Walk to School week comes almost 12-months after Gordon PS was funded a new 300-metre footpath upgrade from Moorabool Shire Council and the State Government.

Along with the health benefits, walking to school has benefits from reducing traffic congestion, saving on parking, and a positive impact on the environment.

It’s based on extensive research and evidence indicating that increased physical activity in Victorian children can provide real health benefits.

To promote physical activity in Victorian communities, VicHealth funded 71 councils, including Moorabool Shire Council.

VicHealth play a crucial role in supporting schools and ensuring it’s safe, easy and fun to walk, ride or scoot to school this October.
Walk to School officially runs from 7 October 2019 to 1 November 2019.
