STUDENTS at St Bernard’s Parish Primary School in Bacchus Marsh have shaved their heads and raised more than two thousand dollars in support of the Cancer Council.

The initiative was organised by pupils Ethan and Nick, and the pair, along with Daniel, Abel, Ben, Flynn, Harlan, and Cruz shaved their heads last Friday.

The aim of the fundraiser was to show teacher Ms Battaglia, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and all those who are affected by the disease, that they are not alone.

Nick and Ethan also have family members who have passed away from cancer and Nick said it is important to show support for people affected by the disease.

“One of our teachers has breast cancer and it is to support families who have had cancer,” he said.

The pair had a fundraising goal of $1000 which they more than doubled.

Darley and Bacchus Marsh football clubs advertised the fundraiser and students from the school were invited to wear crazy hair and bring a gold coin donation last Friday.

“We were asking people to donate, and we raised over $2300,” said Ethan.

“It felt really generous knowing that we made Ms Battaglia feel better and that she is not alone.”
