Blood donors are life savers
Victorian Department of Health
In a normal year, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood collects around 1.5 million blood donations. But the last two years haven’t been normal.
In recent weeks, on any given day, around 20 per cent of blood donors have been unable to donate because they have been isolating or unwell with COVID-19.
One in two people cancel or do not show up for their blood donation appointment.
Despite the pandemic, the need for blood and blood products remains for the thousands of people who rely on them. 12,000 new donors are needed every month this year, to meet Australia’s growing blood needs
