Book History Week in
By Carol Saffer
As History Week approaches, Ballan Shire Historical Society is taking part by holding an open day at the Ballan Court House in Edols Street Ballan on Saturday 13 October
The Society’s secretary Richard Biden says they are hoping to re-launch their Pictorial History of the Shire of Ballan book on the day.
Designed as a coffee-table book, originally printed in 1988 as a Bicentennial project, it celebrates 150 years of Ballan’s settlement and development with images encompassing six 25-year periods up to 1988.
With second-hand copies of the original book currently available online at a cost of $60-$90, purchasing a newly printed one for $35 from the Historical Society could be considered a bargain that may possibly increase in value over future years.
Visitors to the Court House will be treated to a preview of the Historical Society’s display for the RSL centenary commemoration of Armistice Day on 11th November.
The Society is providing an exhibition of photographs of Ballan Shire’s service men and women together with items from their 2015 Anzac Exhibition that, combined with items from the Ballan Red Cross, the Ballan CWA and the local schools, will be exhibited at the Ballan RSL from the 4th – 11th November 2018.
