TAKE a trip to the Scottish Highlands next month at Kryal Castle.

The Highland Spectacular is back for a second year with pipe bands, highland dancing and a Scottish feast.

Phillip Leitch, experiences director at Kryal Castle, said there will be a range of events and activities on offer.

“This will be the second time that we’ve run the Highland Spectacular,” he said.

“It’s a two-day event where we showcase all things Scottish, Celtic and highland.

“We have representatives from the different clans here that set up their stations where people can research their genealogy and find out more about the clans that they belong to.”

A highland games strongman competition, Scottish and food, drinks and goods, and marching bands and music will also be on site.

Last year’s event proved successful, and Mr Leitch said visitors enjoyed learning about their Scottish ancestry.

“It was a really busy weekend, so the festival has had quite a following,” he said.

“There’s something about Scottish Lineage that people are really proud of, and I can’t really say why.

“Having Scottish ancestry myself I somewhat feel the same.”

Mr Leitch sad it’s great to see the community embrace Ballarat’s winter weather through events the Highland Spectacular, and Frozen Kingdom which was held last month.

“Winter in Ballarat is something to be embraced not feared and I think most people see that,” he said.

“Our visitation over the winter holidays was excellent.”

The Highland Spectacular is on at Kryal Castle from Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 August.

Tickets can be purchased on the Kryal Castle website.
