Centenary celebrations

It was standing room only at the Bacchus Marsh RSL earlier this month, as more than 100 people gathered to celebrate the Sub-branch’s centenary.
The anniversary on Sunday, 15 September saw a service held, followed by guest speakers, including keynote speaker Lt Col Richard Simon – a current-serving ADF member, Deputy Mayor Cr John Keogh, displays of war memorabilia, and award presentations to long term members of the Sub-Branch; Jim Ginnane (over 72-years), Neville Alkemade (over 62-years), and Alf Hawken (over 51-years).
The event also saw a presentation of an antique trolley to the Women’s Auxiliary to mark its 90th anniversary.
BM RSL Secretary Bruce Lawton said the centenary “was a really successful event and we heard very positive responses from numerous people.”
The next anniversary of the Bacchus Marsh RSL is set to be the centenary of laying the Foundation Stone of the RSL Building, which occurred on October 27, 1921.
The Bacchus Marsh RSL Sub-Branch is located at 203 Main Street, Bacchus Marsh.
