MOORABOOL Shire welcomed thirty-two adults and seven children as citizens of Australia at two ceremonies held on Tuesday.
The events were hosted by mayor Cr Paul Tatchell at the West Maddingley Early Years and Community Hub.
To become an Australian citizen, individuals must show they understand and accept the country’s values and have a dedication and commitment to Australia.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to give a warm welcome to our newest citizens and acknowledge the importance of what it means to become a full member of the Australian community,” Cr Tatchell said.
“There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s values of freedom, democracy, equality and respect.”
The new citizens travelled from countries including Malta, North Macedonia, FYR Macedonia, India, China, England, New Zealand, Philippines, Canada, Iran, Afghanistan, Jersey, Lebanon and Pakistan.

Jenna McConnel and her husband Richard Cleary became citizens with their children Sebastian and Rebecca.
Ms McConnel travelled to Australia from New Zealand 15 years ago and she said it was important her children became citizens of the country they call home.
“It was especially important to us because the kids, even though they were born here, were New Zealand citizens and they weren’t eligible by birth to be Australian citizens,” she said.
“It was really important for us to have the kids be citizens of the country that is their home because as far as they are concerned, they are Australian.
“We do love it out here and we are really appreciative and excited to be official Australians.”
