Christmas lunch is on us!

A well-known face in Moorabool will be holding a Christmas lunch for those who are less fortunate to hold their own or may be spending the day alone with no family.
Former Bacchus Marsh shire and Moorabool shire councillor, and Bacchus Marsh resident Del Leggatt OAM, is organising the event and said the idea for lunch came about after wanting to do something for the less fortunate in the community.
“We thought ‘what do we do?’, and I thought we would love to have a Christmas lunch for those who have nobody, or who can’t have a Christmas lunch or have nothing to do,” said Ms Leggatt.
After seeking the support of council, posters were designed and were put up around town.
The event will comprise of a meal catered by the Greedy Grub Café in Darley, and Ms Leggatt hopes the day will also include small Christmas presents for guests to take home.
Guests are able to be collected by Deputy Mayor Cr John Keogh in the council van, who said he was “really looking forward” to the day.
“I congratulate Del, our Citizen of the Year, on her initiative to conduct a worthwhile Christmas program.
“[The day] is really about being able to help out the homeless and less fortunate…it’s nice to give a little bit of joy,” said Cr Keogh.
“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone involved, also for a high attendance,” he said.
Ms Leggatt said there were a lot of people out there who haven’t got anyone or aren’t able to afford to have [a Christmas lunch].
“.. and they would never let you know,” Ms Leggatt said.
The Christmas lunch will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Bacchus Marsh on Christmas Day, December 25 at 12pm for 12.30pm. RSVP 11 December.
