Looking through a camera lens has been a different art experience for some students in the classroom.
Grade 5/6 students at Bacchus Marsh Primary School were recently treated to a professional photographic workshop, capturing the imagination of many budding young artists in the digital world.
The workshop, held on Thursday 24 July by the Moran Arts Foundation, saw each student receive a digital camera to use for the day, with the workshop exploring the art and technique of photography, a form of visual storytelling.
Bacchus Marsh Primary School Visual Arts teacher Meghan Fromholtz said after seeing the workshop advertised for a few years, the school applied and became one of the successful applicants.
“In our application we focussed on being the first state school ever in Victoria, as well as our focus on ‘positive education’ – [with themes] such persistence and bravery – and that the students’ photographs would focus on capturing that positive education,” she said.
Ms Fromholtz said the opportunity for the children was important as it “prepares children for the modern day, and their ability to read visual imagery,” as well as being able to “capture and interpret images”.
Five of each student’s favourite photographs were printed to keep as a souvenir of the day.
