Cold room, warm hearts at relief centre
BACCHUS Marsh emergency food relief centre The Neighbour’s Place has received a purpose-built freezer room with support from the Lions Club of Bacchus Marsh.
The Neighbour’s Place chair Carolyn Olthof said project manager and Lion, Russell Hendry, secured grants from the Moorabool Shire and local community bank for the much-needed asset, which enabled it to come to fruition within an eight-month period.
“The inclusion of the freezer room will enable The Neighbour’s Place to provide a more efficient service of food to those in the Moorabool Shire who may be struggling in these times of economic hardship,” Ms Olthof said.
“It will also reduce the electricity consumption, thus allowing more money to be spent on food provision.
“The Neighbour’s Place would like to sincerely thank the Lions Club members; Russell Hendry, Ricky for the concreting, Bonney Refrigeration Melton for the gas for the refrigeration unit, Phil and Joe from Yes Electrics for the electrical work, the Bendigo Bank and the Moorabool Shire.”
The Neighbour’s Place is at 77 Main Street, Bacchus Marsh, and services Moorabool Shire residents. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
