MOORABOOL Shire Council staff are celebrating Volunteer Week later this month and they are inviting the community to join them.
National Volunteer Week runs from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 May and highlights the role of volunteers within communities.
A free barbecue lunch with scones from the Country Women’s Association and live music from BaccBeat Jazz Band will be held on Friday 23 May from 11.30am to 1pm.
It will take place at the Bacchus Marsh Green.
“It’s wonderful to have a dedicated yearly week for our volunteers, to take the time to recognise and celebrate the valuable contributions they make to our local community,” mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said.
“We have volunteers across all aspects of life in Moorabool – from our visitor information centre workers, our committees of management representatives, sporting groups, community groups – there are volunteers throughout Moorabool who are making a very positive difference to people’s lives.”
Cr Tatchell encouraged people to consider volunteering.
“We are always welcoming new volunteers so if you’re interested in supporting your local community through volunteering, a good place to start is the volunteering page on council’s website, where you’ll find local groups, current opportunities, and information on how to register your interest,” he said.
