MOORABOOL Shire Council staff are inviting the community to join them at the Ballan Council Office to acknowledge IDAHOBIT Day.

IDAHOBIT is held annually on 17 May, the date in 1990 that homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organisation classification of diseases.

Local residents are encouraged to stand against discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Council is once again celebrating IDAHOBIT Day with a flag-raising ceremony in Ballan, just as we have done the past few years,” Moorabool Shire mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said.

“It’s been a fantastic event in the past and we’re expecting the same this year.”

The event will include the flag-raising ceremony followed by morning tea, where residents and others can connect.

“We invite everyone in the community, whether they be from the LGBTQIA+ community or just want to show support to those who are, and to stand against homophobia,” Cr Tatchell said.
