Most people have at least a vague idea of their ancestry – parents, grandparents and great grandparents – but until recently, Bill Purcell and his brother Denis only knew their father, and even that had to be questioned.
Mr Purcell had noticed some irregularities around his father’s marriage certificate and his own birth certificate but, he hadn’t delved into the reasoning until a few years ago.
