Considering painting the town pink
By Meg Kennedy
The main street of Ballan may currently be covered in winter woollies, but a different splash of colour is possibly on the way later in the year – only if volunteers can help make it a reality.
‘Pink Up Your Town’ is an initiative by the McGrath Foundation to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer throughout the entirety of October; bringing local businesses, schools, clubs and the general community together to create ‘a visual show of support’ through decking the colour pink.
Its aim is to create awareness for those touched by breast cancer and to raise funds for the nurses of the McGrath Foundation.
The Ballan project is being helmed by Moorabool Shire 2019 Citizen of the Year, Kevin Harper, who is calling to the local community to aid in organising the event over the next few months.
“I have been exploring ways in which I can involve and connect the local community with some of my passions – when the invitation came to ‘Pink Up Ballan’ it seemed the obvious fit,” he said.
“The Pink Up Your Town initiative is a great way to increase community awareness of the work of the McGrath Foundation nurses and to unite a community in working together for a great cause, which has local benefits.”
The next stage is to form a committee and gather a group of volunteers to make the project a reality, focusing on organising charity events, including a Ball.
Mr Harper will be hosting a meeting for interested community members on Tuesday, June 11 at the Ballan Community House from 6-7pm.
