A NEW accessible play space has been unveiled at Darley Park with play equipment, landscaping, footpaths, picnic tables and a drinking fountain.

The previous playground, which sat between the cricket nets and shelter, was decommissioned and is now a lawn area.

The project was funded with more than $600,000 from Moorabool Shire Council and $200,000 from the State Government’s Living Local Fund.

“It’s a wonderful new facility for families and there’s lots of things to do,” Member for Eureka Michaela Settle said.

“Positioned here at the football club means you can come down on a Saturday and everyone can have fun.”

The Darley Park master plan was adopted in 2021 and identified a play space was needed in the area.

A community survey indicated it was important to create an area where both seniors and children can interact.

Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said creating places like this where the community can meet is a key role of local government.

“You’ve got to provide these facilities otherwise we’re not looking after our future,” he said.

“I think we’re back to what we should be doing… I think we’re side tracked continually about being crossed over into other jobs.

“It’s actually projects like this that reminds us what our role is.”
