Vandals have spent the eve of a recent public holiday hacking down an oak tree at Maddingley Park.

The tree, located along the walk way that leads to the Bacchus Marsh train station, was allegedly damaged on the night of Monday, November 6.

Maddingley Park Committee of Management chairman, Russ Hendry said the tree was one of multiple oaks planted eight-years-ago to replace the dying Elm trees that formed the walking path.

Mr Hendry said the damage had been reported to Moorabool Shire Council.

The Committee of Management will soon be installing surveillance cameras in the area.

Pamela Pinney, from Friends of Maddingley Park, said she hoped the cameras would deter vandals in the future.

“Or at least be able to identify the horrors,” she said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Moorabool Shire Council on 5366 7100.
