Drive in for family fun and a film
AN annual family-focused outing will be making a comeback later this month with proceeds going to Myrniong Primary School.
The Greendale Drive-In, traditionally held regularly at Egans Reserve, will for the first time be held at St Anne’s Winery on Friday 8 November.
Event organiser Kristin Sargent said the evening will be a fun, familiar event in a new location.
“This year will be the first time there. It’ll be held right in front of carpark area, so it’ll be a lovely cosy setup we’ll be having,” she said.
“Pretty much when you drive in on your left, there’ll be that entrance where we’ll pop up everything there.”
As well the drive-in event, which will see the 2024 animated film The Wild Robot play across the big screen, the offering will be preceded with two hours of entertainment.
Live music, a vintage car show, food trucks, door raffle, and children’s activities including face painting and crafts will feature.
The Greendale CFA members will also be present, with part of the event’s proceeds going towards the brigade each year.
“It’s funny, we notice many of the cars, just before the movie starts, will roll away because they’ve got young kids who’ll fall asleep anyway and they were just there for the pre-film entertainment,” Ms Sargent said.
“It’s a great bonding experience.”
Originally organised by the Greendale Social Club, Ms Sargent brought the event back during COVID lockdowns after about a decade of dormancy.
She said a key driver was to connect community.
“This is an annual community event we want to keep alive,” she said. “It’s about community. Considering Myrniong, and Greendale, and all the smaller regions out here are pretty isolated, we don’t have much that brings us all together.
“That’s what we do this for.”
Tickets are $48.60 per vehicle and can be booked at myrniong.eventbrite.com.au. Gates open at 5pm.
