A FREE workshop will aim to help farmers build resilience and adapt to drought conditions later this month.

The one-day session will be held at the Darley Civic and Community Hub and will include information about how to manage competing priorities to make better decisions and adapt a business.

It will be led by ION Group lead facilitator Leigh Crocker and resilience specialist Liz Crocker.

Participants will learn skills to rebuild capacity after experiencing health, personal or business challenges and how to connect to networks that support recovery.

“It’s a very powerful workshop,” Mr Crocker said. “It’s in depth and for people who really want to improve their circumstances, make good decisions and set themselves up for the future.

“People when they’re under crisis will often have to prioritise their family… but they can do it at the expense of their business when we don’t want to see them losing all those years of work they’ve put into building something by making bad decisions. Anyone who’s running a farm or a farm business would benefit from this workshop.”

Mr Crocker said that when facing a crisis – whether that be a drought, bushfires, or concerns with farm succession – it is critical to be able to think clearly when making decisions.

“What we find is that when people are under one crisis after another, they need to learn how to manage their resources and their energy so that they can become more resilient,

they can cope and make good decisions,” he said.

“The difference between having a successful farm or a successful life is the quality of your decisions.

“Most people haven’t been taught how to do that.”

The session will begin at 9am on Wednesday 30 July.

Places in the workshop are limited.

Attendees will be contacted for a short phone conversation before the workshop to help the facilitators understand their personal circumstances.
