DUNNSTOWN Recreation Reserve’s upgraded pavilion was officially opened earlier this week, with fresh player and umpire changerooms, including female friendly facilities, an updated hall, and meeting, storage, and first aid spaces.

Dunnstown Community Centre president Sam Lenaghan said the works have improved the facilities for the footy, netball and cricket clubs, making them more inclusive and accessible.

“The changerooms and showers are much improved and facilities like these attract new players,” he said.

“Everybody around the town is super excited by the outcome. Now we can run all of our football and cricket club functions here instead of taking them offsite.

“Funds we raise through the bar helps with the footy club day-to-day expenses and any little community centre upgrades that need doing.”

Dunnstown Community Centre president Sam Lenaghan said the fresh female-friendly changerooms will attract new players to the club.

The $1.2 million project was delivered by Moorabool Shire Council with a $300,000 injection from the State Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, and $275,000 from the Federal Government.

“Footy and netball clubs are the lifeblood of our communities, and it’s important that locals have great clubrooms so people can come together, enjoy their sports and get active,” said Member for Eureka Michaela Settle.

“Dunnstown clubs finally have a hub that’s welcoming for women and girls and can bring the community together to enjoy the activities they love.”

Moorabool Shire mayor Cr Paul tatchell said the upgrade means a lot to the community of Dunnstown.

“Those involved in the football, netball and cricket clubs – but also the wider community who will have access to this upgraded pavilion,” he said.

“We thank the locals of Dunnstown and surrounds who helped us bring this project to life.”
