Farmers border campaign bears fruit

With pandemic restrictions hitting farmers hard, farming groups have lobbied State Governments across Australia with innovative ideas to alleviate the issues raised by closed borders.
Groups such as the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF), the Shearing Contractors’ Association and AusVeg have listed labour shortages, logistical issues, continuity of business and access to inputs as the main thorns in Victorian agribusiness’ side.
Possible solutions posed by the farming groups include putting those put out of work by the pandemic into farming work, with $1200 incentive payments, and housing new agriculture workers in ‘workforce hubs’.
