Flood warning for hikers
With heavy rainfall hitting the area, and more on the way with another La Niña coming, a local SES branch has warned the community against hiking in two local State Parks.
The Bacchus Marsh SES Unit put out a warning on social media on Sunday 18 September, warning hikers that “significant rainfall and runoff has made conditions difficult in both the Lerderderg and Werribee State Park”.
“Some tracks are now impassable because of floodwater. Some normally dry streams are flowing at significant rates,” the Bacchus Marsh SES Unit wrote.
“Please avoid these areas and do not attempt to cross through flood waters.”
The two parks have been quite frequently attended by the Unit over the past 12 months, with more than 10 rescues taking place in the two parks in that time.
