Flying high from the ground

Having a go at flying model aircraft is the perfect way to entertain kids – as well as their parents – anytime of year.
The Mt Wallace Model Aircraft Association is making it easy for young and old, men and women, to try their hand at flying with the upcoming Try-and-Fly day.
On Sunday 1 March, from 10am, anyone is welcome at the club’s Brisbane Ranges Road field where there will be instructors ready to guide first-timers flying the club’s model aircraft.
“People are welcome to come out any time during the day,” said Club President Ken Mollison.
“The idea of the event is to foster an interest around models for people who haven’t seen it done – they can come and have a try under the guidance of our instructors. Everyone is welcome,” he said.
The Victorian Model Aircraft Association and the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia are both sponsoring the event, which will also include displays of model aircraft and refreshments available to purchase.
Mr Mollison said women are increasingly becoming involved in the world of model aircraft flying, with four members in Queensland, two in New South Wales and two in Victoria.
The Mt Wallace club has 35 members and the location for the Try & Fly Day is Brisbane Ranges Road Mt Wallace (approximately 1.5 kilometres from turning off the Ballan-Geelong Road.)
