Free skin cancer checks
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, but Lions Clubs in Victoria and NSW are helping reduce that level, including in Ballan.
The Skin Check van will be at the Ballan IGA car park from 9 am to 3 pm on Thursday 17 November and Friday 18 November, providing a free skin screening service from fully trained, certified, and professionally supervised volunteers.
Run by the Lions’ incorporated charity Lions V Districts Cancer Foundation, the Skin Check and Awareness Unit has been able to help residents across Victoria and Southern NSW thanks to financial support from Lions Clubs, and generous public and private supporters.
The Unit will also be a valuable resource for local people to access not only the skin check, but valuable and timely information about skin care and self-checking techniques.
After having a skin check, visitors will be issued with a referral to their GP if there are any suspect spots or lesions.
The Unit isn’t a medical clinic – simply the first step in ensuring urgent needs are addressed, providing an alert to any spots or lesions that require further checking.
The air-conditioned van has three fully equipped screening rooms and an entry foyer, as well as a disabled lift and entry at the rear.
Bookings are essential. To book a free skin cancer screening, call 0412 819 110.
