Free skin check returns to Bacchus Marsh
THE Lions Club of Bacchus Marsh is hosting free skin checks next Saturday and Sunday at the Village Green.
Held in the Lions’ skin cancer van, trained dermoscopists will complete screenings to see if there are any suspect lesions.
Bill Richards, vice-president of the Lions Club of Bacchus Marsh, encouraged the community to make a booking early if they wish to get checked.
“What the Lions have decided to do is create this mobile skin checking service,” he said.
“We did have a visit about two years ago and we found we had far more demand, so we put in a request to get it back again, but it’s so popular and it’s a free service, so it’s taken about two years for it to come back to Bacchus Marsh.”
If any areas of concern are identified, the dermoscopist will provide a referral.
“The appointment will take about 10 to 20 minutes, and they’ll go into a private room; we have three rooms operating together,” Mr Richards said.
“The dermoscopist will give a thorough check. If they discover anything that looks a bit suspect they will refer you to your GP.
“I’ve had a few people come to me in the street and say thank you because they identified skin cancers and went to the GP and had them quickly removed.”
The checks will occur on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November from 9am until 4pm. To book a free check call 0491 980 180.
Anyone who misses out on a booking can turn up on the day in the event there is an opening.
