Get set to tackle the sport of fishing
Victorian Fisheries Authority have been stocking more cod and yellas to further improve recreational freshwater fishing, and includes a local waterway in Moorabool.
Pykes Creek Reservoir at Myrniong had a release of 10,000 yella fingerlings, with 42,300 released at nearby Melton Reservoir.
All these fish and more are part of their massive effort to stock an all-Australian record of 10 million fish come April, thanks to your fishing licence fees and the State Government’s $35m Go Fishing Victoria plan to get more people fishing, more often.
And, they’re stocking goldens left, right and centre as they road-trip across the state.
They were out west at the Wimmera River, between Dimboola and Horsham, with 50,000 goldens alongside 50,000 silvers! That’s 100,000 fish in one day for the Wimmera, which is set to get well over 500,000 fish (goldens, silvers and Murray cod) this season.
They’ve also stocked yellas into:
🐟 Rocklands Reservoir – 255,000
🐟 Melton Reservoir – 42,300
🐟 Pykes Creek Reservoir – 10,000
🐟 Navan Park Lake – 1,000
That’s not all! The Loddon River is getting 20,100 Murray cod at the Fernihurst Weir, which were grown at the new native hatchery at Arcadia.
They have already surpassed the previous record of 8 million fish stocked in a year, and are now getting closer and closer to 9. The target of 10 million fish come April isn’t far away.
