Get your ‘game on’
By Jessica Howard
It’s game on for local children and families as Moorabool Shire Library Services prepare for the annual Summer Reading Club.
The national program encourages pre-school, primary and secondary-aged children to continue to read throughout the summer holidays.
Now in its sixth year, the national program will this year celebrate the theme ‘GAME ON!” ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Participants are encouraged to celebrate Australian sporting culture and team-mateship, while also exploring connections and conventions associated through games and technology.
Registrations for the Summer Reading Club will open on Friday December 1.
Each child who reads ten books, or reads for ten hours, will go into the draw to win a number of fantastic prizes, including a family pass to the Ballarat Wildlife Park; a Collins Booksellers Gift Card or a membership to Museums Victoria and Victoria Zoo.
Children will also receive a lucky dip prize for every five visits to either the Lerderderg or Ballan Library.
The Summer Reading Club is free to register and will run until Friday January 19, with an end of program party to celebrate the children’s achievements.
Upon registering, participants will receive a free reading pack that includes stickers, temporary tattoos, wrist bands, bookmarks and a drink bottle.
