The Ballan Lionesses are seeking volunteers to help man the colourful and quirky Steptoes Op Shop.
The old house, located on Inglis Street and decorated head to toe in mosaic, raises money for local community charities and events.

Lionness President, Fred Moore said more volunteers were vital to keeping up with the shop’s busy schedule.

“There is a constant flow of stock coming in that keeps us very busy. Some of our volunteers are getting older, with some in their 80s, and unfortunately we just can’t keep up,” she said.

“We are looking for volunteers who are willing to offer as much time as they can, whether it’s one hour or four hours.

“Anyone is welcome; however, we are hoping for more volunteers aged over, or under 45, who may have less commitments and are looking for companionship and a place to provide community service”.

Steptoes Op Shop is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, with sorting days held on Monday, Friday, Saturday and some Wednesdays.

Ms Moore said the op shop was a great way to make new friends and have fun.

“We work as a team and we raise so much money for local charities, it really does give you a lot of joy to know that you’re doing something so worthwhile for the community,” she said.

“As a volunteer, you make so many new friends, and not just with the other volunteers but with customers too. Every day is a bit of fun, mucking around and making jokes”.
