Helping women keep their dignity
By Meg Kennedy
Locals are encouraged to ‘share the dignity’ of women’s hygiene products at UFS Pharmacies in Moorabool.
The local UFS stores in Ballan and Bacchus Marsh are taking part in the ‘Share the Dignity’ campaign throughout the month of August, which aims to assist women who are experiencing period poverty.
3.2 million Australians are currently living under the poverty line, with more than half of these being women and young girls.
Many experience period poverty on a monthly basis – meaning they are unable to afford necessary sanitary products.
Ballan pharmacist Denise Drew said it is the second year the store has run the drive.
“It’s important to us, particularly women as pharmacy tends to be a women-dominated area, but also for UFS as it is very involved with community projects,” she said.
Items that can be donated include but are not limited to sanitary pads, tampons, soaps, deodorant, toothpaste and similar women’s hygiene items.
Donations can be dropped off in the labelled boxes at UFS Ballan, located at 129 Inglis Street and at UFS Bacchus Marsh Grant Street and the Village Shopping Centre.
