How and where to recycle e-waste
Did you know it’s free to recycle small electronic waste items (also known as e-waste), such as mobile phones and batteries?
Since 1 July 2019, e-waste has been banned from Victorian landfills, as most e-waste contains hazardous materials such as lead and mercury, which don’t readily break down and can leach into groundwater, soil, and air.
E-waste is a growing form of waste, with almost 50 million tonnes generated in 2018. With valuable materials such as copper, silver, and gold able to be recovered and re-used, it’s vital that e-waste is recycled, and stays out of landfill.
