MOORABOOL Shire Council has taken the next step in its push for an indoor pool at the Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) stadium in Bacchus Marsh, with formal submission of a grant application to the Federal Government.
The application was lodged last week, before the 1 December deadline, for funding under the government’s Major and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
The Shire wants the government to deliver on a commitment, given by the Member for Hawke Sam Rae, of a $25 million contribution in the lead-up to the 3 May election.
It would provide the remaining money needed to build the pool. The Shire has already contributed $15 million and the State Government has put forward $10 million.
“This project is so important to the Bacchus Marsh community, and I’m thrilled that we’ve secured the funding to make it a reality,” Mr Rae said during the election campaign.
“Labor is delivering essential infrastructure that supports local families and residents in our region.
“This investment will ensure Bacchus Marsh has the pool facilities it needs for generations to come.”
Mr Rae was appointed as the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors soon after the election.

The $50 million project will feature aquatic, health, fitness and leisure facilities to meet community and visitor needs and will include a 25-metre indoor lap pool, facilities for a learn to swim program, a toddlers play area incorporating zero-depth water play, a warm water program pool, changing facilities including family and accessible change rooms, a spa, steam room and sauna (subject to available budget), a kiosk offering high-quality food with a large seating area, a gym and group fitness area, and disability access.
Moorabool mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said it was pleasing to have successfully submitted the application.
“We look forward to receiving further information from the Australian Government in the new year,” he said.
Cr Venditti-Taylor acknowledged Mr Rae’s strong support for the pool push.
“We appreciate his support for this project, and we look forward to delivering a facility that will benefit residents of all ages, abilities and stages of life,” he said.
The Major and Local Community Infrastructure Program is an invitation-only Australian government initiative, launched in September, to fund community infrastructure projects identified by the Government.
It was developed to deliver election commitments and improve community resilience, liveability, and economic viability.
Successful grant applications are expected to be announced early next year.
