A CENTRAL Highlands Water Choose Tap water fountain has been installed at the Gordon Recreation Reserve netball courts.

The installation is designed to keep Gordon Football Netball Club and recreational users hydrated and encourage the community to make sustainable choices by refilling water bottles.

“This new choose tap water fountain will assist the local community including the Gordon Football Netball Club to keep hydrated all year long while making environmentally friendly choices,” Central Highlands Water managing director Jeff Haydon said.

“It’s important that CHW supports initiatives that create positive behaviours today for a more sustainable future.

“This installation will allow recreational users to refill their reuseable water bottles and avoid single-use plastic waste.”

In Australia almost 15 billion plastic bottles are purchased each year and more than 50 per cent end up in landfill or waterways.

Single use plastic bottles take 450 years to decompose.

Central Highlands Water’s Choose Tap initiative aims to encourage users to bring their own water bottle and use tap water for health and sustainability benefits.

Choose Tap fountains are in spaces including parks and schools across the region.

Earlier this month, the City of Ballarat and Central Highlands Water collaborated to install a Choose Tap water fountain at the upgraded Buninyong Pump Track.

The fountain has been designed to provide the cycling community and recreational users with easy access to fresh water.
