Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that you cannot see or smell.
Symptoms of CO poisoning are non-specific and can be mistaken for flu-like illness or food poisoning. They may include headache, nausea and vomiting, skin flushing, muscle pain, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, coordination difficulties, confusion, or chest pain.
High concentrations of CO can cause seizures, loss of consciousness and even death.
If you think that you or someone else may have CO poisoning:
– Immediately turn off all gas appliances.
– Open doors and windows to ventilate the area.
– Leave the property, keeping the doors and windows open if possible.
– Seek medical advice immediately or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24 (24/7).
– In an emergency call Triple Zero (000).
