Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia, can be caused by Legionella longbeachae and Legionella pneumophila bacteria.
These harmful bacteria can be inhaled or spread from hand to mouth after handling potting mix, soil or compost.
Stay safe in the garden – wear a mask and gloves and be sure to wash your hands.
