RETIRED or semi-retired women looking for fun, friendship, and to learn something new are invited to join Bacchus Marsh Ladies Probus Club as they prepare to welcome a series of guest speakers over the coming months.
On 3 July, Bacchus Marsh and District Historical Society vice-president Tim Hogan will deliver a talk with a focus on photos of the Bacchus Marsh area as it was, and as it is today.
Leonie Henry from Soul Food charity group Bacchus Marsh will present on 7 August about their weekly provision of free two-course hot meals in a safe and welcoming environment, and on 4 September, Probarians can discover the many services of the Lerderderg Library with librarian Kristie.
Mr Hogan said the 90-minute Then and Now presentation will include a series of slides of old and new photos.
“We’ll show an historical image of a particular location, ask people if they know what it is, we tell them a bit about it, and the next slide is that location in the here and now,” he said.

“It’s a nice little montage, and an opportunity for people to remember, reflect and yarn, or for those newer to the town to learn about the town.
“It’s a fun talk to do, it generates some memories and it’s a good oral history gathering exercise for us. It’s quite popular; we did one last year at Providence Aged Care.”
Examples of some of the locations to be featured include Ryan’s Corner/the ABC Cafe, the White Kiosk, the Border Inn, and the post office.
“The entertaining and knowledgeable Tim and Bruce (Carboon) will present a fascinating slideshow of Bacchus Marsh which promises to be both informative and enjoyable,” said Bacchus Marsh Ladies Probus Club’s publicity officer, Barbara Nixon.
