Lost a snake?
Most people have a cat or dog go missing, but recently an unusual reptile, for the area, was found.
Carpet pythons are generally found in habitats ranging from tropical rainforest in the north-east of Australia to arid and coastal regions, not in the Central Highlands.
When a Buninyong resident contacted the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) about a carpet python found in their woodshed a month ago it came as a surprise.
DELWP Program Manager of Compliance Operations, Jim O’Brien said the python was well outside of the natural range and climate for this species.
“He is healthy and happy being handled, so he must belong to someone.”
Lovingly named ‘Stanley’ by the DWELP team, the non-venomous python appears to have been well cared for.
DELWP is hoping an owner will come forward looking for the nearly three-metre reptile.
“We would love to hand him back to his owner, so ‘Stanley’ can continue to be cared for.”
If you know who ‘Stanley’ might belong to, or if you have recently lost a python fitting this description please contact DELWP Compliance on 136 186.
