A MAGICAL night of entertainment for all ages is coming to Bacchus Marsh Public Hall in support of the environment.

Pentland Hills Landcare Group is staging the fundraising show, Mind Games with Mark Mayer, on Saturday 18 October, with all proceeds from the event going towards the group’s fight against serrated tussock, community education, weed control, and equipment purchases.

Mayer has 25 years of performing live magic under his belt, and is a member of Pentland Hills Landcare.

He said his blend of mind-bending magic and comedy is fun for the whole family.

“There’s lots of interactive magic that’s bold, and up and down, and the show has some funny moments that are associated with serrated tussock,” he said.

“The last trick of the whole show is a message that brings it all together… but I won’t spoil the surprise.

“It’s not just a great night out, but a chance for people to learn about our area and keep the future of our beautiful Pentland Hills beautiful.

“It’s about shining a light on the incredible work of Landcare volunteers and rallying the community to protect our environment for the future.”

When Mayer and his partner moved to the area from Melbourne, they joined the local Landcare group and discovered the challenges created by serrated tussock.

“Learning and awareness about it was also a major problem,” Mayer said.

“At one of the Landcare meetings I was thinking about how I could help… and although I have limited physical ability, I can do magic.

“So we put together a proposal… and ta da!”

A raffle will be drawn, with all prizes donated by local businesses. Attendees can expect live music and refreshments, and to learn more about the challenges of serrated tussock.

Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. Bacchus Marsh Public Hall is at 207 Main Street, Bacchus Marsh.
