UPGRADES to spectator seating at Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) Stadium will allow more people in the community access to support local athletes.

Member for Eureka Michaela Settle joined with Moorabool Shire councillors last week to announce funding for the upgrades which would improve the stadium’s show court capacity.

The Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association’s Hoops for Her program has also been boosted by a $6694 grant through the Change Our Game Activation Grants program.

Hoops for Her aims to boost participation among women and girls through clinics and coaching courses.

Ms Settle said the MARC Stadium had been a success and the upgrades will further enhance the facility.

“In this year’s State Budget, we allocated $250,000 to the MARC Stadium,” she said.

“The stadium has been a wonderful success, but what the locals really want is to make it a show court.

“This $250,000 along with funding from council will mean we can put in movable seating and open it up as a show court, and to more competitions.

“This upgrade is about more than just a new seating area, it’s about creating a space where the whole Bacchus Marsh community can come together, cheer on their local teams, and celebrate everything we love about grassroots sport.

“We’re also announcing the just-under $7000 for the Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association’s Hoops for Her. It’s a program to get more women and girls engaged in the sport of basketball.

“I’m proud to be backing local clubs, creating opportunities for women and girls, and investing in the future of our growing region.”

Moorabool Shire mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said the funding will enable greater use of the facility.

“It will open the stadium right up to be able to host events that attract people from all over Victoria,” he said.
