Meet Marigold

Contrary to its name, the Bacchus Marsh Flower and Garden Show is about much more than just plants.

In its fourth year, the event, formerly known as the Bacchus Marsh Horticulture Show, will see a wide range of attractions including cake decorating and photography competitions, op shop garden art, scarecrows, copper and vortex fountains and a children’s art table.
The Bacchus Marsh Men’s Shed will also feature useful fence-paling garden woodwork.

Committee Chairwoman, Jocelyn Taylor said the aim was to allow for as many community members and businesses to participate as possible.

“We know there’s a lot of really good photographers in town, and there’s also a lot of great cake decorators, so we’ve decided to give the show another string,” she said.

“We lost the Agriculture Show way back in the year 2000 and there were a lot of different competitions that people could enter into back then, so we thought we would expand this year to give people an extra thing to participate in”.

The Flower and Garden Show is held annually at the Bacchus Marsh Public Hall and features seven show sections: roses, cut flowers, floral art, Australian natives, junior section, pot plants and garden produce.

The cake decorating competition will include a single tier 10-inch cake or six cupcakes decorated in a garden theme, and photography submissions will comprise of un-photo-shopped photographs of trees, flowers or gardens.

The show will be held on October 28 and 29, with flower entries to be brought to the Public Hall between 7:30am and 9:30am on the first day.

Scarecrow and show mascot, Marigold will be joined by her three friends at the show and will shortly be seen around Bacchus Marsh in the lead up to the event.
Ms Taylor said the Flower and Garden Show was founded in order to raise money for the promotion of an Aquatic Centre in Bacchus Marsh.

“While our mandate is to support local organisations and businesses, we also want people to know that we are still working hard to get an aquatic centre to replace the very, very old pool that is closed for nine-months of the year.

“We need the local community behind us as a bit of a pressure group, as we would really love to see a facility that will be utilised by every age group – from six months right up to 90-plus”.
