Meeting for Maddingley Brown Coal proposed permit amendment

Bacchus Marsh residents wanting to know more about Maddingley Brown Coal’s proposed permit amendment are invited to an upcoming community session.
Moorabool Shire Council will hold a community meeting next month, regarding the proposed amendment to the existing Maddingley Brown Coal landfill permit.
The amendment seeks to include household waste – also known as “putrescible waste” (19 Feb edition) – on the landfill site, located at 11 Tilleys Road in Maddingley.
In a public notice, Moorabool Shire Council said the meeting will be “an information session on the process of this application and where to from there.”
Currently, MBC’s permit allows for “the Use and Development of the Land for a Landfill, Production of Soil and Soil Products (including composting) and works associated with those uses; Materials and Recycling (Metals and Construction and Demolition waste)” at the site.
Residents have shared their concern for the amendment in various ‘Letters to the Editor’ and ‘Facebook Feedback’ in the Moorabool News, since the story was published; particularly regarding the issue of smells from the site, should the amendment be accepted.
Darley resident Bill Wilson wrote (26 March edition) that “it will be a sad end of this town as we know it should this be approved.”
“The air, water and groundwater consequences of this proposal are frightening,” wrote Mr Wilson.
A spokesperson for Maddingley Brown Coal said a representative of the company will be in attendance at the meeting and, will respond to any queries attendees may have.
The meeting will be held in the Supper Room next to the Lerderderg Library, Main St Bacchus Marsh at Tuesday, 7 May 2019 at 6pm.
