Moorabool – The year ahead
By Lachlan Ellis
There might not be any in-person ribbon cutting for the time being, but Mayor Cr Tom Sullivan is optimistic that 2022 will be a big year for Moorabool Shire.
“Because we’re going to have two elections in 2022 (State and Federal), I think we want to make sure we have very sound projects that are fully costed and stand up to economic scrutiny, to present those to governments or political parties,” Cr Sullivan said.
“We also want to be strategic about what we’re seeking to do – not just shiny bauble stuff, I mean basic infrastructure that’s needed into future. For argument’s sake, industrial land in Moorabool is something we’re aware of and are looking to make sure is enhanced, to foster greater economic growth and jobs in the community.”
With the Omicron variant spreading rapidly and restrictions lower than in 2021, Cr Sullivan believes illness, and the supply shortages that widespread COVID illness is causing, will be a major challenge for Council.
“The resources to physically get the work done…not just in government but across the economy, we’re seeing the supply chain under stress. Timber’s hard to get, steel prices are increasing, so material prices for Council might increase…resourcing is something we’ll have to keep an eye on,” he said.
