Movie and competition for platypus

Do you love platypus? A free movie screening and a competition devoted to the local platypus population are coming up.

Organised by the Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance and Grow West, the #PlatypusNextDoor Competition and Platypus Movie Night aim to highlight how we can help our local platypus population.

The #PlatypusNextDoor Competition calls on locals to take a photo of them or their family doing something to help our local platypus, then either post the photo on Facebook or email it to [email protected]. In the post or email, entrants should include the hashtag #PlatypusNextDoor; the entrant’s age group and postcode; AND describe how what they’re doing helps platypus.

The competition closes for entries on 11.59 pm on Tuesday 28 November, with prize winners to be announced at the Platypus Movie Night, with prizes including meeting a platypus, platypus toys, beautiful platypus-themed homewares, and more.

The competition is open to all ages, and anyone from Moorabool Shire and Melton.

Meanwhile, from 6.30 to 8.30 pm on Friday 1 December at the Supper Room at the Bacchus Marsh Public Hall, a free screening of ‘The Platypus Guardian’ will be held.

The documentary was made by the ABC and features Zoom the platypus who lives in the Hobart Rivulet, and a human inspired by Zoom. Footage will also be shown of local Bacchus Marsh platypus population, and some of the things the Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance has been doing to help them.

There will be free popcorn, door prizes, and refreshments at the community movie night.
