AN old bank building is being demolished to make way for construction of a new library, and the progress is being celebrated with a fun, free event this weekend.

Works to dismantle the old Commonwealth Bank building in Inglis Street, Ballan begun on Friday 7 June and lasted about a week, with the site set to host a new Ballan Library and Community Hub.

To celebrate the start of works on the new facility, Moorabool Shire Council is hosting a Ballan Library Community Celebration, from 11am to 1pm at AA McLean Reserve, on Saturday 22 June.

Moorabool Shire mayor Cr Ally Munari encouraged residents from Ballan and beyond to head to the reserve, and enjoy the range of activities in store.

“We are so excited construction has started on the Ballan Library and Community Hub and even more excited we can celebrate this project with the community,” Cr Munari said.

“The hub is going to be a centrepiece in the township of Ballan, and has been made possible thanks to funding from the Victorian Government, council and the Ballan and District Community Hospital.

“We encourage residents in Ballan and surrounds to turn up on Saturday and have some fun with us.

“There’ll be a petting zoo, face-painting, music, food and a best-dressed competition for the kids. Help us celebrate.”

The Ballan Library and Community Hub project has been made possible thanks to $5 million in Victorian Government funding, $2.25 million in council funding, and $250,000 from the Ballan and District Community Hospital.
