Only pee and poo down the loo
Although some wipes – such as make-up and baby wipes – may be labelled as ‘flushable’, Central Highlands Water has warned customers that there is no such thing as a ‘flushable wipe’.
The water authority said it spends more than $100,000 a year clearing sewer blockages caused by non-flushable items.
An information page on their website said that “flushed baby wipes, make-up wipes, cleaning wipes and personal hygiene wipes can cause blockages in your pipes and big problems for our sewerage system.”
“A sewer blockage impacts the community, the environment and creates additional costs to clean up. Our sewers weren’t designed for wet wipes because they don’t break down like toilet paper,” said the webpage.
CHW stressed to customers to remember only flush ‘the three Ps’: Pee, Poo and toilet Paper’.
