A champion of multiculturalism and inclusiveness has been named as Moorabool’s Australia Day Ambassador, and will visit the Australia Day celebrations at the Bacchus Marsh Public Hall on Wednesday 26 January.

Dr Bullent (Hass) Dellal AO is the former Chair of SBS Television and Radio, and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Australian Multicultural Foundation, which has promoted “a strong commitment to Australia as one people drawn from many cultures” since 1989.

Mayor Cr Tom Sullivan said it would be fantastic to have Dr Dellal AO as part of Moorabool’s Australia Day celebrations, which will also include a citizenship ceremony and the declaration of Moorabool’s Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year.

“This year we are proud to welcome Dr Dellal AO to be part of the community on this special occasion, which recognises us as Australians and our part in a wonderful community and nation,” Cr Sullivan said.

Dr Dellal has over 30 years’ experience in multicultural affairs, including chairing the centre for Multicultural Youth and the Islamic Museum of Australia, and co-chairing the Victoria Police Multifaith Council.
