Pollies show ‘no toxic soil’ support

An initial vote against dumping toxic soil in Bacchus Marsh has been held by Victorian Members of Parliament.
The Upper House passed a motion last week stating it opposes any decision by the state government or its agencies to dump toxic soil from the West Gate Tunnel Project, at the Maddingley Brown Coal site.
The motion also noted proper community consultation and a full environmental assessment has not been undertaken by the West Gate Tunnel Authority, Transurban or other entities associated with the project.
“The proposed dump site is near the Bacchus Marsh Grammar school and the town centre, making it inappropriate to foist the transport and dumping of the contaminated soil on the community”, the motion read.
Moorabool Mayor David Edwards thanked the Victorian Upper House for supporting the Bacchus Marsh community and, urged the State Government not to ignore the strong message being sent from elected Members of Parliament.
