TWO local bridges will be closed for a five-month period from today for improvement works.

During the closure period at the Pyrites Creek bridges, the Western Freeway will remain open to light and heavy vehicles. Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of traffic will be available through the site, with speed restrictions of 40km/h in place for the safety of crews and road users.

A detour around the construction site will also be in place via the Old Western Highway and Hopetoun Park Road, with light and heavy vehicles travelling eastbound having the option of staying on one lane on the freeway, or taking the detour.

Oversize and overmass vehicles more than 2.55 metres wide and up to 30 metres in length, 5.0 metres wide and 5.0 metres high will be detoured via the Old Western Highway.

Vehicles that are oversize and overmass and exceed 30 metres in length, 5.0 metres in width or 5.0 metres in height will stay on the Western Freeway.

Night works began on Sunday 7 April, and finished at 5am this morning.

Dates and timeframes of the works are dependent on a range of factors, including weather and site conditions.
