As National Refugee Week fast approaches, local Ballan residents welcome migrant families with open arms.

Lloyd Lamb, member of the Ballan Refugee Realities group, said the week-long event raised awareness about the issues affecting refugees, and highlighted the positive contributions made to Australian society.

“Everybody has watched the terrible things that are happening overseas and it is important to reflect on the struggle and the true prevails that some people have gone through to find themselves on Australian soil,” he said.

“One of the main aims of the Ballan Refugee Realities group is to see everyone come together to make this a refugee-friendly town. Ballan is a unique place, filled with people that are very community minded and naturally friendly, and I think there is every opportunity for the number of refugee families to grow here”.

The Ballan Refugee Realities group will host an event celebrating National Refugee Week on Sunday June 18.
