Roadworks to improve the drive

The Pykes Creek Reservoir Bridge is well on its way to being significantly strengthened, thanks to a $4 million upgrade.

Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard inspected works on the bridge, located on the Western Freeway, on Friday, April 6.

Works include strengthening of the Melbourne-bound bridge beams, concrete deck, improved drainage and removal and replacement of asphalt road surfacing.

“The Western Freeway is one of Victoria’s busiest arterial roads carrying around 25,000 vehicles each day between Melbourne and Ballarat,” Mr Howard said.

“The upgrade will ensure that the freeway continues to support our local economy as the key transport corridor for commuters, business and freight.

“The project is part of over $10 million that’s being invested by the Andrews Labor Government toward major upgrades and maintenance works that are underway on roads in Moorabool.”

Other investments include $2.4 million for the Gisborne Road and Holts Lane intersection in Bacchus Marsh; $3,04 million toward the upgrade of Halletts Way; and over $500,000 for road resurfacing at the Western Freeway at Ballan and at two sections of the Old Western Highway at Old Anthony’s cutting.

Mr Howard said the improvements will provide a smoother and more reliable journey for those who live and work in the area and depend on local roads each day.

“The Andrews Government is delivering more funding than ever before to make our regional roads safer,” he said.

“I want to thank the community for their patience while these important works are underway”.
