Stay safe on the water
Victoria Police
Looking for a fresh start to the new year?
If you’re following in the footsteps of our search and rescue officers and taking a dip in a river, creek or lake this summer, be careful of hidden hazards.
Inland waterways have many hidden dangers such as submerged objects, debris and strong currents.
To stay safe on the water this summer:
– Read safety signs to understand the dangers and check out the weather forecast.
– Watch out for unstable edges on river and creek banks.
– Wear a lifejacket when boating.
– Always tell friends or family where you’re going and when you plan to return.
Fill in a trip intention form so someone can raise the alarm, if you do not make it back in time – https://www.police.vic.gov.au/outdoor-and-bush-safety
